It has plenty of savory onion flavor, garlic, and herbs, and you can mix up a jar in just a few minutes. When you need a quick dip, just stir some of the mix into sour cream and you’re ready to go.
It’s also nice knowing exactly what went into the mix. No little seasoning packet required!

Transfer the mixture to a small airtight jar or container. Label it Homemade Onion Dip Mix and store it in a cool, dry pantry.
That’s it! You now have a homemade dip mix ready whenever you need it.
How to Make Onion Dip
To make the dip, stir 1 batch of the seasoning mix into 1 cup of sour cream.
For the best flavor, cover and refrigerate the dip for at least 30 minutes before serving. This gives the dried onions and herbs time to soften and lets all of those flavors come together.
Serve with potato chips, crackers, fresh vegetables, or spread it onto sandwiches and wraps.
Make a Bigger Batch
I like making several batches at once and storing them in little jars. Homemade mixes are one of those things that seem like a small project, but having them ready in the pantry can save quite a bit of time later.
You can also adjust the seasoning to your taste. Add a little more dried onion for a stronger onion flavor, or increase the garlic if that’s your thing.
