Homemade Meatball Seasoning for Easy Meals

If you make meatballs regularly, having a jar of homemade meatball seasoning mix in the pantry can make dinner so much easier.

I love having homemade seasoning mixes ready to go because they take just a few minutes to make, but they can save you from measuring a bunch of spices every time you cook.

This meatball seasoning mix has a savory blend of herbs and spices that works well with beef, pork, turkey, or a combination of meats. Use it for homemade meatballs, meatball subs, pasta dinners, or even slow cooker meatballs.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon dried minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional

How to Make Meatball Seasoning Mix

Add all of the ingredients to a small bowl and stir until everything is evenly combined.

I like making a double batch so there’s always some ready for the next time meatballs are on the menu.

How to Use Meatball Seasoning Mix

For about 1 pound of ground meat, use approximately 2 tablespoons of seasoning mix.

Add the seasoning to your ground beef, pork, turkey, or meat mixture along with your usual meatball ingredients.

You can add breadcrumbs, an egg, milk, Parmesan cheese, or whatever you normally use in your favorite meatball recipe.

Mix everything gently until combined, then shape into meatballs and cook according to your recipe.

Ways to Use Homemade Meatballs

This seasoning mix isn’t just for one type of meatball. You can use it to make:

  • Classic Italian meatballs
  • Meatball subs
  • Spaghetti and meatballs
  • Swedish-style meatballs
  • Turkey meatballs
  • Slow cooker meatballs
  • Meatball appetizers
  • Meatball bowls

It’s especially handy for making slow cooker meatballs when you’re putting together an easy dinner or appetizer for a gathering.

Make a Batch for the Pantry

Homemade seasoning mixes are one of my favorite ways to make a pantry more useful.

Instead of reaching for a packet every time you make dinner, you can keep little jars of your favorite blends ready to go.

Once you’ve made a few, you start to realize how many convenience mixes you can make yourself.

This meatball seasoning mix would be right at home next to my other homemade pantry staples.

Storage

Store the meatball seasoning mix in an airtight container in a cool, dry pantry.

For the best flavor, use it within about 6 months. The dried herbs and spices will gradually lose their flavor over time, so making smaller batches that you use regularly is a good way to keep your homemade mixes tasting fresh.

Tip: If you make meatballs often, double or triple the recipe and keep a jar labeled in your spice cabinet. It’s one less thing to measure on busy nights.
