If you love a crispy waffle in the morning but want something a little more filling, these high protein waffles are an easy breakfast to add to your routine.

They’re made with protein powder, eggs, Greek yogurt, and simple pantry ingredients for a waffle that’s crisp on the outside, tender inside, and packed with protein.

With about 30+ grams of protein per serving, these waffles make a satisfying breakfast without requiring a complicated recipe.

They’re also easy to customize with fresh berries, bananas, nut butter, Greek yogurt, or a drizzle of maple syrup.

Why You’ll Love These High Protein Waffles

  • Easy to make
  • About 30+ grams of protein per serving
  • Crispy on the outside and tender inside
  • Uses simple ingredients
  • Great for busy mornings
  • Easy to freeze for meal prep
  • Delicious with all your favorite waffle toppings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 scoops vanilla protein powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter or coconut oil

I like vanilla protein powder for this recipe because it adds sweetness and flavor, but you can use an unflavored protein powder if you prefer.

If your protein powder is already very sweet, you may not need to add any additional sweetener.

How to Make High Protein Waffles

1. Preheat Your Waffle Iron

Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Lightly grease the waffle iron if needed.

2. Combine the Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, protein powder, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.

Breaking up any lumps in the protein powder now will make the finished batter smoother.

3. Mix the Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, Greek yogurt, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter.

The Greek yogurt adds moisture and helps keep the waffles tender rather than dry.

4. Make the Batter

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined.

Don’t overmix the batter. A few small lumps are fine.

If the batter seems unusually thick, add another tablespoon or two of milk until it reaches a thick but pourable consistency.

5. Cook the Waffles

Pour the appropriate amount of batter into your preheated waffle iron.

Close the lid and cook according to your waffle maker’s instructions, usually for about 3–5 minutes.

The waffles should be golden brown and crisp on the outside.

Carefully remove them from the waffle iron and continue with the remaining batter.

How Much Protein Is in These Waffles?

The exact amount will depend on the brand of protein powder and Greek yogurt you use.

Using a protein powder with approximately 24 grams of protein per scoop and dividing the recipe into two servings gives you roughly 35 grams of protein per serving.

For the most accurate nutrition information, check the labels of the specific ingredients you use.

High Protein Waffle Toppings

This is where you can really have fun with these waffles.

Try topping them with:

  • Fresh strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Sliced bananas
  • Greek yogurt
  • Peanut butter
  • Almond butter
  • Chopped pecans
  • Walnuts
  • Chia seeds
  • Cinnamon
  • Maple syrup
  • Honey
  • Fresh fruit
  • Powdered sugar

For an extra protein boost, add a spoonful of Greek yogurt or peanut butter to the top.

Make Berry Protein Waffles

For an easy variation, add a handful of fresh or frozen blueberries to the batter before cooking.

You can also serve the finished waffles with warm berries and Greek yogurt for a breakfast that feels a little more special.

Make Cinnamon Protein Waffles

If you love warm cinnamon flavors, increase the cinnamon to 1 teaspoon and add a small pinch of nutmeg to the batter.

These are especially good topped with sliced apples, chopped pecans, and a drizzle of maple syrup.

Can I Make These Waffles Ahead of Time?

Absolutely. These waffles are great for breakfast meal prep.

Make a full batch on the weekend and allow the waffles to cool completely.

Place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for several days, or freeze them for longer storage.

To freeze them, arrange the cooled waffles in a single layer until frozen. Then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container.

When you’re ready for breakfast, pop a frozen waffle directly into the toaster or toaster oven.

There’s no need to thaw them first.

What Kind of Protein Powder Should I Use?

I recommend using a protein powder that you already enjoy the flavor of. This is the one I use and love.

Vanilla is especially good for waffles, but chocolate can be delicious if you’re making chocolate protein waffles.

Different protein powders absorb liquid differently, so you may need to adjust the amount of milk slightly.

If the batter is very thick, add a little more milk. If it’s too thin, let it sit for a minute or add a small amount of flour.

Can I Make These Without Protein Powder?

The protein powder is what gives these waffles their higher protein content, so leaving it out will change the recipe considerably.

If you want a more traditional waffle recipe, you can use a regular waffle batter instead. But for a true high protein breakfast, I recommend keeping the protein powder.
