Why You’ll Love Homemade Sourdough Pizza Crust
- Delicious sourdough flavor without complicated steps
- Includes both overnight and same-day options
- Crispy edges with a chewy center
- Great for pizza night, calzones, and flatbreads
- A fun way to use an active sourdough starter
Overnight Sourdough Pizza Crust (Best Flavor)
This version gives the dough time to ferment slowly for extra flavor and texture.
Ingredients
- 1 cup active sourdough starter (fed and bubbly)
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose or bread flour
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine sourdough starter, warm water, olive oil, and salt.
Add flour gradually and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
Knead for 5–8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add a little more flour if sticky.
Place dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover.
Let rise at room temperature for 8–12 hours (overnight), until puffy and easier to stretch.
Punch dough down and divide into 1–2 pizza crusts depending on thickness preference.
Stretch or roll dough onto a pizza pan or baking stone.
Add sauce, cheese, and toppings.
Bake at 475°F for 10–15 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
Yield: 2 medium pizzas or 1 large thick crust
Same-Day Sourdough Pizza Dough
Need pizza faster? This same-day version still tastes amazing.
Ingredients
- 1 cup active sourdough starter
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon honey or sugar (helps speed rising)
- 3 to 3 1/2 cups flour
Instructions
Mix sourdough starter, warm water, olive oil, honey, and salt in a bowl.
Stir in flour until dough forms.
Knead for 5–8 minutes until smooth.
Cover and let rise in a warm spot for 3–4 hours, or until noticeably puffed.
Stretch dough into pizza crusts.
Add toppings and bake at 475°F for 10–15 minutes.
This version won’t have quite as much sourdough tang as the overnight dough, but it still makes a soft, chewy, flavorful homemade crust.
