One of the reasons I love making pulled pork is because it only has two ingredients: pork and barbecue sauce! I look for sales on pork tenderloin or pork butt, and I buy several when they’re on sale to make easy pulled pork. I love thawing out a package for a quick meal.
You can make your own barbecue sauce
, but to save time I buy mine from the store. I have used several different brands of barbecue sauce, but my favorite and the one I usually buy is Sweet Baby Ray’s
What is the Best Cut of Meat for Pulled Pork?
I have used both pork tenderloins and pork butts to make pulled pork. Both cuts of meat are not exactly the same, but the results will be similar. Pork loins are generally longer and are more lean than pork butt. Pork butt
is on the fattier side, with a meatier flavor. Either can be used to make pulled pork, I usually buy whatever is on sale. Both result in great pulled pork.
Pulled Pork in Electric Roasting Pan
My favorite way for cooking pulled pork is to prepare it in an electric roasting pan like this one
. I like to prepare a lot of pulled pork at one time so that I can freeze it for quick meals later. When you find pork roasts on sale, take advantage and stock up!
Place your pork in the electric roasting pan and cook at 300 degrees for 8 hours or overnight. No need to add any water or seasoning, just let the pork cook until it falls apart.
Easy Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
The secret to tender pulled pork is in the slow cooking! Pulled pork can be prepared in a slow cooker or crock pot
very similarly to cooking it in the electric roasting pan. Place the pork in a crock pot and cook on high for 5 to 6 hours or low for 8 to 10 hours. The longer you cook it the better, you really can’t cook it too long!
Freezing Pulled Pork
You might wonder if pulled pork freezes well. It does! Freeze meal-sized portions of pulled pork in quart-sized ziplock bags
for up to 6 months.
Pulled pork also reheats well. After the pulled pork has de-thawed, you can heat it up again either in a saucepan on the stove or in the microwave. You will need to add some extra barbecue sauce to give it extra moisture it may have lost in the freezer.
Easy Pulled Pork without a Slow Cooker
Any pulled pork recipe that results in a tender fall apart pulled pork sandwich is a best pulled pork recipe in my book. Experiment with different barbecue sauces and find your favorite!
