I love baking during the fall season. Nothing smells better than a loaf of bread baking in the oven. I have a lot of favorite quick bread recipes. My family loves apple fritter bread and cranberry orange bread, just to name a few.

This year I decided to try something different. I found a recipe for caramel apple bread, and after I tried making it for the first time, my family had another quick bread recipe to add to our list of favorites.
I’ve tried some different apple breads before. What’s different about this one is the decadent caramel frosting on top. Like real caramel. Homemade caramel. It sounds hard to make, but it’s really not!
This bread is easy to make and you can freeze it too. This recipe makes two loaves of bread. I was given a bucket of apples and I planned to make a bunch of loaves of this bread to enjoy this winter. The problem is my husband and teenage boys are eating the bread as fast as I make it!

Caramel Apple Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 large or 3 medium apples
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup buttermilk or half and half
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 4 eggs
- 3 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Butter and flour the bottoms of two 9x5x3-inch loaf pans. Peel and chop apples into very small chunks.
In a large bowl, mix together apples, brown sugar, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and eggs. We raise ducks and chickens so I love to use duck eggs in my baking. If you are lucky enough to have duck eggs, feel free to substitute them for the chicken eggs.

Stir in powdered sugar. If the glaze is too thick, add a little milk to thin it out. Drizzle the glaze over the loaves of cooled bread.
Bread will stay fresh for 4-5 days. To freeze, wrap in aluminum foil and freeze for 2-3 months.

Could I bake this in a 13×9? I don’t have but one loaf pan. THANKS
What are the best apples to use for this recipe?
I haven’t tried it, but I don’t see why not. You can also make your own buttermilk by adding a tablespoon of lemon juice to a cup of milk.
Can you substitute the buttermilk with regular milk?
I’ve got this baking in the oven right now. Really hope it turns out as nicely as yours did! I’m dying to actually taste it as well – my kitchen smells like heaven right now.
This looks fab! Can’t wait to try it!
