Tip for removing lint from towels: You can get rid of excess lint on towels by “shaving” it off with a disposable razor, yes it will take a while but it is well worth it if you don’t like lint on your towels. For just over $10 you can get this fabric defuzzer thing that shaves the fuzz right off of new towels!

Washing New Towels With Vinegar

One method for getting new towels to stop shedding is washing them with white vinegar. Wash the towels in the washing machine in hot water and add 1 cup of white vinegar in with your normal laundry detergent. This will help prevent your towels from further shedding, and will also help set the color in your new towels.

Adding 1 cup of white vinegar in the wash with your bath towels about once per month will also help keep your towels soft.

Washing New Towels with Baking Soda

You can also use baking soda to help keep your new towels from losing all of their fluff. Wash your new towels in the washing machine in hot water and add 1/2 cup baking soda in with your normal laundry detergent.

Washing New Towels in Salt

Adding a cup of salt to the wash will help keep your colored towels from fading.

Make sure to wash your towels in a load by themselves so that the fluff or “pilling” will not come off of them and get on your other clothing. Also make sure not to over-dry your towels. Getting them too dry will increase the chances of pilling.
