I’m sure I’m not the only one who hates cleaning the bathroom! And I definitely don’t clean my bathtub and shower as often as I should.
I also live in a really old house and my bathtub is probably at least 40 years old. Even when it’s clean it still doesn’t look like new, but I can’t use that as an excuse to let the mold and mildew build up.

There are a lot of different store bought cleaners you can use to take care of mold in your bathroom. Many of those cleaners contain harsh chemicals.
This homemade cleaning solution is all natural and completely safe to use to clean your bathroom. Both vinegar and tea tree oil are natural germ fighters and will kill the mold in your bathroom on contact.
Ingredients:
- 1 c. water
- 1 c. white vinegar
- 20 drops Tea tree oil
If you don’t have tea tree oil on hand, you can usually find it at a health food store. You can also order it from Amazon. Tea tree oil can be used for making many different household cleaning products, so one bottle will last you quite awhile.
Combine all ingredients together in an empty spray bottle and shake to combine. Spray solution on mold and let sit for 2-3 minutes. Scrub with a small scrub brush and rinse.

That’s it! The mold washes right off.
If you don’t like the smell of vinegar, you can also replace the vinegar with hydrogen peroxide. It will clean just as well, although it also has a strong odor. Make sure you have a window open to help ventilate the room while you are cleaning.

Sponge mop will help you reach it. For corners…hire a young person. I just had to do our bathroom ceiling. Was not easy SO I suggest you also hire someone to paint it with mildew resistant paint. I also have limited mobility limited breathing and a limited budget…BUT you must act to remove it or it will affect your health.
