This is a fun time for you and your baby, exploring new foods and seeing what your baby likes and doesn’t like. I found that my twin boys have very different tastes! One will eat just about anything I give him, and the other doesn’t care for vegetables at all, except for sweet potatoes, which he loves.
By 6 months my twins were on a consistent eating schedule. By this time they had been introduced to:
Vegetables:
Sweet potatoes
Squash
Carrots
Fruits:
Pears
Peaches
Apricots
Applesauce
Bananas
After your baby has tried these different foods, you can start mixing and matching to suit your baby’s tastes.
Here is a sample menu plan for a 6 month old baby:
Breakfast:
Rice cereal with mashed banana
Lunch:
Applesauce with carrots
Dinner:
Sweet potatoes
Applesauce with apricots
This is just an example of a menu plan that worked well for me. I also used homemade baby food I had prepared and frozen ahead of time. Most of baby’s nutrients are still coming from formula or breast milk. Getting your baby on this kind of feeding schedule is getting him or her used to eating solid food. When my boys were 7 months old, I added more foods and learned more creative ways to please my picky eater.
