This candy corn pumpkin is such a simple Halloween craft, but it makes a big statement on your porch.
Instead of carving your pumpkin, you can turn it into a colorful fall decoration with just a few colors of paint.

What You’ll Need
- One pumpkin

Choose a pumpkin with a nice shape and relatively smooth surface. A taller pumpkin works especially well because you have plenty of room for all three candy-corn colors.

How to Paint a Candy Corn Pumpkin
Start by cleaning your pumpkin and allowing it to dry completely. You want the surface free of dirt and dust before you begin painting.
Paint the top section of the pumpkin white. Don’t worry if the first coat doesn’t completely cover the orange pumpkin. Let it dry and add another coat if needed.
Next, paint the middle section orange. Try to create a fairly even band around the pumpkin, but it doesn’t have to be perfectly straight. A little variation gives the pumpkin a handmade look.
Finally, paint the bottom section yellow.
Let each section dry completely before adding another coat. Depending on your paint and the color of your pumpkin, you may need two or three coats for good coverage.
Once the paint is completely dry, you can leave the pumpkin as-is or spray it with a clear outdoor sealer if you’re going to display it outside.
Tips for Painting Your Pumpkin
You don’t have to get the lines perfectly straight. In fact, I think the slightly imperfect painted edges are part of what makes this project charming.
If you want more precise lines, use painter’s tape to mark the sections before painting.
Acrylic craft paint works well for a decorative pumpkin, but if you’re planning to leave your pumpkin outdoors for an extended period, choose paint and sealer appropriate for outdoor use.
You can also paint several pumpkins in different sizes and create a whole candy-corn pumpkin display.
This would also make a fun project to do with kids. Instead of worrying about carving tools and sharp knives, they can help paint the pumpkin.
Let each child choose a pumpkin and help with one of the three candy-corn colors. You could even turn it into a pumpkin-painting afternoon with cider and Halloween treats.
