DIY Shout Stain Remover

This DIY version of Shout stain remover works just as good as the name brand, and is very easy and inexpensive to make with items you probably already have on hand.

The past couple of months I have shared with you the recipes for making your own laundry detergent and my very inexpensive laundry softener.

I decided it was time to find a replacement for my Shout stain remover. We go through a lot of that stuff, and I have seen some recipes for making your own that I wanted to try.

I decided to give this recipe for homemade laundry stain remover a try, and I was very happy with the results. To make it, you will need:

  • 2/3 c. Dawn dishwashing soap
  • 2/3 c. ammonia
  • 6 tbsp. baking soda
  • 2 c. warm water

Pour all the ingredients into a clean empty spray bottle. You can get empty spray bottles at the Dollar Store. Walmart also has them for about $1.

Give the bottle a little shake to mix everything up and then use as you would use your normal favorite stain remover.

I decided to try this stain removing solution out on some fresh blackberry stains.

I had spent the afternoon (several days before) picking blackberries, and had dark berry stains all over my light red jacket. The stains were completely dried.

I sprayed the stains really well with the cleaning solution and washed the jacket. I was happy to see that ALL of the stains came out.

I also tried it on some grease stains on a t-shirt that had already gone through the wash once already. It also removed those stains.

You will notice that after this solution sits for a little while everything will settle at the bottom of the bottle. Just give it a shake and it is ready to use again.

Make sure you label your spray bottle, so you know which homemade cleaning solution is which!

  1. I like to make a double batch and filling a spray bottle half full then topping it off with warm water.

  2. My only problem is the baking soda clogs my spray bottle and I have to
get a new one all the time Any suggestions? Otherwise it really works!
