DIY Dryer Sheets

One of my favorite laundry hacks! Tip for making your favorite laundry fabric softener last longer by making your own DIY dryer sheets.

I have tried many different homemade laundry detergents and laundry softeners over the years, and have had varying degrees of success with them. People have come up with a lot of creative ways to save money when doing laundry. These DIY dryer sheets are one easy way to save money when doing laundry.

Some people also use vinegar to soften their laundry. It is also inexpensive and doesn’t contain harmful chemicals. I found, however, that it didn’t get rid of static cling as much as I would like, so I decided to give these DIY dryer sheets a try.

Supplies needed:

  • Two or three new sponges
  • Laundry softener of your choice
  • Tupperware container

First cut the sponges in half. Next fill the tupperware container half full of your favorite laundry softener (I like lavender scented Downy) and half full of water. Place the sponges in the container and place near your dryer.

When you are putting your laundry in the dryer, remove one of the sponges from the container and wring it out back into the container.

Place the damp sponge in the dryer with the wet clothing. The laundry softener will still soften your clothes and remove static cling, but you will have used hardly any laundry softener at all.

When you remove the sponge from the dryer it will be dry again. Place it back into the container for next time.

It will take quite awhile to use all of the fabric softener in the container. I poured about half the container of fabric softener into my tupperware container, and the sponge didn’t soak up that much, especially with the water added, so it will last a long time.

Now you can still take advantage of your favorite fabric softener, but it will last twice as long! Give it a try and see what you think.
