How to Make Bang Bang Sauce
For this homemade version, you’ll need:
- Mayonnaise
- Sweet chili sauce
- Sriracha
- Rice vinegar
- Honey
- Garlic powder
Add everything to a small bowl and whisk until smooth and creamy.
That’s it!
I like to let the sauce sit in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before serving. The flavors have a chance to blend together, and it tastes even better.
What Is Bang Bang Sauce Good With?
This is where things get fun because there are so many ways to use it.

Make It As Spicy As You Like
The nice thing about homemade bang bang sauce is that you can easily adjust the heat.
For a mild sauce, use just a small amount of sriracha.
Want more heat? Add another teaspoon or two.
You can even add a pinch of cayenne pepper if you really like spicy food.
If the sauce is too spicy, add a little more mayonnaise or honey to balance it out.
Bang Bang Sauce vs. Yum Yum Sauce
They look similar, but they aren’t quite the same.
Yum yum sauce is generally creamy, slightly sweet, tangy, and mild.
Bang bang sauce has a more noticeable sweet-and-spicy flavor because of the sweet chili sauce and sriracha.
Both are fantastic with Asian-inspired meals, and having both in the refrigerator gives you plenty of options for homemade takeout night.
