  • 2–3 whole vanilla beans, split lengthwise (or 2 teaspoons vanilla oleoresin)

Note: Pure vanilla extract is not recommended because it contains alcohol and water, which don’t blend well with carrier oils.

Equipment

How to Make Vanilla Body Oil

Step 1

Slice the vanilla beans lengthwise to expose the tiny seeds inside.

Cut the beans into smaller pieces and place them in a clean mason jar.

Step 2

Pour your chosen carrier oil over the vanilla beans until they are completely covered.

Leave about ½ inch of space at the top of the jar.

Step 3

Seal the jar tightly and place it in a cool, dark place for 2 to 4 weeks.

Shake the jar every few days to help infuse the vanilla into the oil.

Step 4

Strain the oil through cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer to remove the vanilla beans.

Step 5

If desired, stir in Vitamin E oil and a few drops of vanilla essential oil or fragrance oil for a stronger scent.

Transfer the finished oil into a dark glass bottle.

Quick Warm Infusion Method

Want your body oil sooner?

Place the mason jar into a saucepan with a few inches of warm water.

Heat over very low heat for 2 to 3 hours, making sure the oil never simmers or boils.

Allow the oil to cool before straining.
