What You Need
For one quart-size mason jar:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 cup chocolate chips

- Gift tag or recipe card
How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix in a Jar
1. Combine the dry ingredients
In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
This helps distribute the baking soda throughout the flour before adding it to the jar.
2. Layer the ingredients
Using a canning funnel, carefully add the ingredients to the mason jar.
Start with the flour mixture, followed by the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and chocolate chips.
Press each layer down gently before adding the next one so everything fits neatly in the jar.
The contrasting layers make this gift look really pretty, especially when you use a clear mason jar.
3. Seal and decorate
Put the lid on the jar and tie it with ribbon or twine.
Add a gift tag with the baking instructions. You can also add a little wooden spoon or a festive cookie cutter to make the gift extra special.

Write these instructions on the gift tag:
To Make the Cookies:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Pour the contents of the jar into a large bowl.
Add:
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix until combined.
Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
