- ¾ cup hot water
- Cinnamon stick, for garnish (optional)

Tips for Making Hot Buttered Rum
Use softened butter. Softened butter blends more easily with the sugar and spices, helping create a smooth, flavorful drink.
Adjust the sweetness. Start with one tablespoon of brown sugar and add more if you prefer a sweeter cocktail.
Try different spices. A pinch of allspice or ginger can add another layer of warm holiday flavor.
Make a batch ahead. Mix the butter, brown sugar, and spices together and refrigerate in a covered container. When you’re ready to serve, add a spoonful of the mixture to a mug with rum and hot water.
Serve immediately. Hot buttered rum is best enjoyed fresh while it’s warm and aromatic.
