Ingredients

  • 4 ounces prepared eggnog, chilled
  • 1½ ounces dark rum or bourbon
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Ground nutmeg, for garnish
  • Cinnamon stick, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add the chilled eggnog, rum or bourbon, and vanilla extract to a cocktail shaker.
  2. Add a handful of ice and shake until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass or small cocktail glass.
  4. Sprinkle with freshly grated nutmeg and garnish with a cinnamon stick, if desired.
  5. Serve immediately.

Tips for Making an Eggnog Cocktail

Choose your spirit. Dark rum adds a warm, slightly sweet flavor, while bourbon gives the cocktail a richer, oaky taste. You can also use brandy for a traditional flavor.

Make it extra festive. Add a pinch of cinnamon or freshly grated nutmeg, or garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Serve it chilled. Keep the eggnog refrigerated until you’re ready to mix the cocktail. A chilled glass helps keep it cold, too.

Make a batch for guests. Multiply the ingredients by the number of servings and stir together in a pitcher. Keep refrigerated and pour into individual glasses just before serving.
