About a month ago I saw a photo that was going around on Facebook (and Pinterest) that claimed that a Listerine foot soak would allow you to literally wipe the dry skin and calluses off of your feet. I decided to give this listerine foot soak a try and see if it really works!

What is the Listerine Foot Soaking Recipe?
The original instructions say to combine 1/2 cup warm water, 1/4 cup Listerine, and 1/4 cup vinegar. I altered this a bit since it didn’t seem like there was enough water in it to even cover my feet!
I put enough hot water to cover my feet in my foot spa. (Might as well pamper myself a bit while I’m at it!) I didn’t even measure the Listerine and vinegar, but I poured in about 1/2 cup of each into the water.
Is Listerine Good for Soaking Your Feet?
I sat and soaked my feet for 10-15 minutes, and then used a towel to wipe off my feet. And sure enough, a lot of the dry, cracked skin on my heels completely wiped off!
Seriously, my feet were getting so bad that I was almost too embarrassed to wear sandals in public. My husband says the answer to soft feet is to wear socks and shoes all of the time, but I don’t think so. Not during summer anyways!
I was really pleased with the results of the foot soak. After I dried my feet I put some lotion on them and I could really tell a difference in how soft my feet were that whole day.
I will definitely be doing it again (too much damage to be undone in one sitting, ha ha!). You would probably have an even better result if you have a foot scrubber to help scrape the dead skin off, but I haven’t had a chance to get one yet.
I read some comments from other people who have tried this and they had mixed results. Some people that used the bright blue Listerine had their feet turn blue!
I used the vanilla mint Listerine and didn’t have any problem at all with my feet turning blue. My kids really would have loved that though.
Another fringe benefit of the apple cider vinegar is that it is also a home remedy for athlete’s foot. Both the Listerine and apple cider vinegar will help kill germs you are carrying around on your feet, so that is an extra bonus.
Give it a try though, I think you will be happy with the results!
