Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh lilac blossoms stems removed
  • 1 cup sugar or honey
  • 16 cups water 1 gallon total
  • Juice of 4 lemons

Instructions

Prepare the Lilacs

  1. Rinse lilac blossoms gently.
  2. Remove flowers from stems and discard stems.

Make Lilac Tea

  1. Place lilac blossoms in a saucepan.
  2. Add several cups of the water to cover blossoms.
  3. Bring to a boil.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Let steep for 20 minutes.

Strain

  1. Pour mixture through a fine mesh strainer.
  2. Discard blossoms.

Mix the Lemonade

  1. Pour strained lilac tea into a gallon pitcher or container.
  2. Add sugar or honey.
  3. Add lemon juice.
  4. Add remaining water.
  5. Stir until sweetener dissolves.

Chill and Serve

  1. Refrigerate until cold.
  2. Serve over ice.

Recipe Notes

Use only unsprayed edible lilac blossoms.
Fresh lemon juice gives best flavor.
Adjust sweetness to taste.
Steep longer for stronger floral flavor.
Garnish with lemon slices or fresh lilac blossoms if desired.
