According to WebMD, “Athlete’s foot is a common fungal infection and you don’t have to be an athlete to get it. This annoying ailment occurs in boys, girls, men, and women of all ages.”

Stubborn cases of athete’s foot are hard to get rid of. There are all kinds of products you can buy to treat it, but many of them are expensive and often don’t work.

I recently stumbled across this message board post that talked about using apple cider vinegar as a treatment for athlete’s foot. It’s cheap, and I had some, so it was worth a try!

I found that a combination of the vinegar and keeping your feet aired out (wearing flip flops) works very effectively to treat athlete’s foot. The vinegar works great to kill bacteria, just like it does in common DIY household cleaners.

You can either put the apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it on the affected areas or if you have a really bad case you can soak your feet in it. You will notice an immediate decrease in pain and itching. It is very soothing. I noticed dramatic improvement within several days.

Using this in combination with wearing my flip flops allowed the area to heal. You also want to limit how many pairs of shoes you wear while you are treating it because you can re-infect yourself from contaminated shoes. Spray the insides of all your shoes with the vinegar to treat them.

Make sure to clean and disinfect your bathroom floor and bathtub and shower floors, to greatly reduce chance of re-infection.
