DIY Dry Laundry Detergent

A couple of years ago I tried making my own laundry detergent. I have been using it ever since. It is so inexpensive, there is no reason not to use it. The recipe that I have been using is for liquid laundry detergent. This recipe is for dry detergent. Both recipes have the same ingredients, so it’s up to you which one you want to use. I think the dry detergent is easier to make, but they are equally easy to use when washing clothes.

You should be able to find all of these ingredients in the laundry section at Walmart without any problem. You will be shocked at how much cheaper it is to make your own laundry detergent. You can make several batches of detergent with one box of Borax and one box of washing soda. This recipe lasts me at least 3 months for a family of 5.

You will need:

  • 2 bars Fels Naptha soap
  • 2 c. Washing Soda (not baking soda)
  • 2 c. Borax

You will need a food processor to make this dry detergent. Cut the soap into several pieces and chop it up really fine in the food processor. Pour the ground up soap into a container and add the washing soda and Borax, mixing well.

Use 1 tbsp. of dry detergent per load. This detergent can be used in all types of washing machines, including HE models.
